Cobian backup monitoring

Cobian backup is a program for Microsoft Windows that can be used to schedule and backup your files and directories from their original location to other directories/drives in the same computer or other computer in your network. FTP backup is also supported in both directions (download and upload).

In short, Cobian backup has a nice GUI, can use Volume Shadow Copy, keep multiple copies, handle incremental backup and compression, and finally send a mail report.

Only last Cobian 10 is supported by MagiKmon.

Usage

Cobian supports a lot of options that can affect the format of the mail report. Here are these option and advised values for integration with MagiKmon.

First : the General Options panel

Set Language to ENGLISH because the mail parser cannot understand other languages for Cobian, sorry !

To avoid errors not related to the backup process, disable Log new version as error.

The Log Options panel

To limit the size of the mail report, limit verbosity to Normal.

Disable One log file per day to collect all the log in one unique log file.

Activate the Mailing option, click on Mail log file.

Choose After backup to allow Cobian to merge successive task into the same mail report. MagiKmon will split them in the report.

Enable Mail as attachment, this allow to have a report in zip format, more compact.
Disable Mail if errors only, because MagiKmon need to be warned in case of success too.
Enable Delete if successfully mailed. If not, mail report will be merged together and grow endlessly.

Don't forget to setup the Sender's address, SMTP server and Port

Sender's name and Subject are not parsed by MagiKmon, you can use the default values or use yours.

Add the mail address of your MagiKmon service to the Recipients list.

Force Unicode headers and Force Unicode body must be checked !

The Advanced Options panel

The Date time format on log must be set to defautl value yyyy-mm-dd hh:nn to allow the parser to handle start and end of backup appropriately.
